“Deceitful practices, Tech's use scare tactics to convince you urgent work is necessary, then scamming you for huge amounts of money.
– Tech arrived with outdated, non-working equipment that stalled and died during repair. My AC needed refrigerant, a full 5lbs. was necessary to receive cool air in my home. The canister he brought was barely half full and "went dry" during installation and stopped filling at 2lbs. unable to give us the full 5 lbs. necessary, and tech was unable to know exactly how much had gone in so he "guessed" the amount and ultimately charged us over $800.00 for a full 5lbs, which could not be verified. His digital reader that displays the number of lbs. distributed also 'died' during the process, obviously a used and broken piece of equipment that should never have been used. With two pieces of equipment that were not up to standards, there was no way of knowing how much Freon was accounted for, which is where the tech's "guesswork" came into play. He was young & inexperienced and should have called for a back-up tech to come out with properly working equipment to give an honest readout. Instead, he claimed there 'probably' was a Freon leak and would have to tear down the drywall in the garage and check the AC pipes to find the leak, and if I didn't comply, I'd be looking at serious costs ahead. I declined and asked him to leave. He then demanded the $800.00 for what he 'guessed" had transpired, and wouldn't leave until I paid. He openly admitted that the canister he brought was 'not full' when he picked it up earlier. Meanwhile, it's 100 degrees out side, house heating up rapidly with two seniors inside, and we were left with an AC unit that would not shut off at all, only manually. We went to a hotel at our cost to keep cool. This tech literally ruined our AC and we had to call another company the next day to get it fixed right. I called Desert Diamond at 8:30pm that night, left a voicemail of complaint and never received a return call. The General Manager, Joseph Moeller, emailed the next day stating they did nothing wrong and stand by the $800.00 charge. I suspect this GM was probably a low level former tech who was given the GM title as a nepotism favor. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND DESERT DIAMOND.”
