Top 2025 HVAC Trends and Upgrades for Your Arizona Home
Still considering a New Year’s resolution? Why not upgrade your home comfort system?
It is the perfect time to embrace an efficient, eco-friendly, intelligent heating and cooling system. Fortunately, the HVAC industry constantly evolves and offers upgrades that can significantly improve comfort and save money.
At Desert Diamond Air, we are excited about technological innovations in our industry. These affect everything from system efficiency to temperature control and how your HVAC unit interacts with other smart appliances and systems. Our qualified team can help you determine how advances in HVAC technology can benefit your household in Phoenix.
What is on the radar for 2025? Consumers want systems that minimize damage to the planet and curb energy use, which leads to savings in utility costs. They want their heating and cooling systems to lighten their environmental footprint. Innovative HVAC changes start with new refrigerants this year.
Refrigerants
Newly manufactured heat pumps and air conditioners are sporting new refrigerants with lower global warming potential (GWP). Federal regulations designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions drove the switch to refrigerants with lower GWP.
Residential heat-pumps and air conditioners manufactured over the past several years contain R-410A refrigerant, which is now phasing out. Manufacturers quit using R-410A refrigerant this year, although HVAC contractors may continue selling inventory containing R-410A through the rest of 2025.
This year’s HVAC equipment contains new refrigerants, like R-32 and R-454-B, which have a lighter environmental impact and are more efficient than previous refrigerants.
Product Improvements
HVAC units built for the outdated R-410A refrigerant are incompatible with the new, mildly flammable refrigerants. New heating and cooling systems incorporate added safety features and compressor upgrades for the new refrigerants.
Some manufacturers saw the new refrigerants as a motivator for upgrading their products. In a press release issued in March, a spokesperson for Trane Technologies noted the company “seized the transition” to lower GWP refrigerants as an opportunity to redesign their products with “cutting-edge technology, lead within the emissions reduction space, and further innovate for a more sustainable world.”
For example, Trane’s 17 Multi-Speed Air Conditioner and 17 Multi-Speed Heat Pump are new to the product line. Both products have six operating speeds, enhanced humidity control, and up to 17.1 Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2 (SEER2)
At Desert Diamond Air, we proudly offer our customers Trane and Daikin products. When paired with other trending HVAC products, like smart thermostats, they can enhance comfort, reduce energy consumption, and save you money on utility bills.
Smart Thermostats
The newest generation of thermostats takes temperature adjustment to a new level. They learn your routines and adjust temperatures automatically based on your temperature preferences and home occupancy.
Although [smart-thermostats] are not new, their popularity has grown as consumers seek efficient, earth-friendly heating and cooling solutions. If you have high heating and cooling bills, you could reduce costs by up to $100 by installing a smart thermostat, according to ENERGY STAR®.
Predictive Maintenance
HVAC systems incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and predictive analytics can anticipate potential problems before they occur, enabling proactive troubleshooting and remote diagnostics.
Smart technology allows technicians to resolve some issues remotely. This approach to HVAC maintenance can minimize repair visits and system downtime and extend your HVAC unit’s lifespan.
Inverter Technology
Inverter technology allows for precise temperature control and significant energy savings. Unlike traditional systems that operate at full capacity, inverter systems adjust compressor speed continuously, maintaining your desired temperature while consuming less energy.
Trane Technologies boasts variable-speed HVAC systems that automatically adjust to more than 700 speeds, improving energy efficiency, comfort, and cost savings.
HVAC units like heat pumps and ductless mini splits that use inverter technology continue to grow in popularity.
Renewable Energy
As Phoenix, consumers search for ways to reduce their reliance on grid electricity and shrink their carbon footprint, they choose heating and cooling strategies that combine renewable energy with their HVAC systems.
- Geothermal Power: Geothermal heat pumps use the constant temperature underground to provide highly efficient and cost-effective heating and cooling. Geothermal systems boast a long lifespan and have minimal impact on the environment.
- Solar Power: Solar panels offer a clean and cost-effective way to power your HVAC system. By harnessing the sun’s energy, you can reduce reliance on the grid and shrink your carbon footprint.
- Battery Backup: Battery backup systems are gaining traction as extreme weather causes frequent power outages. Batteries can pair with home solar systems or serve as a power backup for homes that rely on grid electricity.
